Following on from the release of “Somewhere to Go”, we have launched an international series of EPs, reflecting the truly international nature of Tehmussin activities. We have 2 EPs coming together that go hand in hand and will share some music and musicians, these being “Tehmussin’s Rebetika” and “Desert Songs” “Tehmussin’s Rebetika” will contain 5 songs from “Somewhere to Go” and 2 songs from “Desert Songs”. The 5 from STG will all be new versions and new recordings. The music for the 2 songs from the ”Desert Songs” EP will be shared on both EPs, thus creating a link across the Mediterranean Sea, or at least that’s the idea - and it’s a good one with, to say the least, a lot of historical president. The currently planned song line up is: 1. Duran Tribute; 2. Unrequited Love; 3. The Hero Remembered; 4. Shivani; 5. Desert Rose; 6. Desert Guy Like Me 7. Woman, Come Back to Me Tehmussin’s Rebetika will feature Greek and English lyrics. It’s a natural to adapt the songs from “STG”, as they are Greek influenced anyway, and producing versions more specifically in the modern Greek musical vein is very much our default direction to take. The mixing of Greek instrumentation with Arabian themes and rhythms for the other two is a new experiment, but from the point of view that it is going the wrong way. I.e. the Rebetika came from Asia Minor and developed as European music with Eastern influences, while this will be our Arabian focused music with Greek influences. It will be interesting to see what we can make of it. Just a thought, but these 2 EPs are likely to finish as a single LP at the end of the day, with another 2 songs added to replace the repetitions. Sounds like a plan. Early days yet. Apart from anything else, we are in the progress of upgrading our recording studio equipment. Keep in touch for updates.
