Dear Reader please read on. This is how it all begins: A great spirit from ages past, from pagan times in fact, appeared to us and spoke to us these words: “There is a rumour coming from the world. A wicked tale of four demons abroad upon the Earth that seek to undermine the achievements wrought by human kind with the inspiration of the Gods through all the eons since the dawn of human time. These demons I shall not name, but describe them thus: the first, the denier of all values, the second the denier of purpose, such as would be divine purpose; the third the destroyer of history, wisdom and culture, and the fourth is the demon of surrender, seeking to remove all human rights and sovereignty. These demons together are working to create a single amorphous cosmos devoid of all individual inspiration, difference, merit and accomplishment, be it human or divine. “I fear the havoc of these demons wrought upon the world. But other powers I have seen upon the Earth too, such as would counter the evil of these foes, and for these I have returned to lend my support and my patronage. “You I choose as my champions to fight for me this battle in art and song; while in the farthest corners of the world you will find a strong spirit of wisdom who will aid you in this task. This spirit will come to you in the shape of a horse transformed into a boy. Seek him and he will aid you. Then take my name, be guided by my muses, remember always the gift of the Seven Stars, and sing of your world for my pleasure and for its future’s sake. “My love and my protection be with you and with all those who follow you; and I am Mnemosyne: Goddess of Memory, daughter of Uranus and Gaia, who are Heaven and Earth; Titan, and mother of the nine muses.
